Barnstoneworth United AA1 v Mascot Kings

Sunday at the House Of Paine saw the might of Barnstoneworth United take on Mascot Queens in what was a potentially tricky fixture, with a couple of first team regulars away or injured.

Any pre-match nerves were settled though when a headed goal by big Tom Laing got Barnstoneworth off to a flyer. Barnstoneworth took control of the match before the break when Slamming Sam Binks added a second goal. Barnnie were a bit unlucky not to go in at the break more ahead after a couple of decent saves from the Mascot keeper.

As the second half got underway someone had to tell Davey Thompson that we changed ends as it's been such a long time since he's been on the pitch for a second half. The boys started the second half well and went 3 up through Alec after good work from Tom and Sam. Being 3-0 up is always dangerous for Barnstoneworth as complacency tends to kick in a little bit.

Just as predicted the boys then took the foot off the gas and let mascot back into the game and played pish for about 20 minutes during which mascot pulled it back to 3-2 and were going for the equaliser. Simba addressed the problem by bringing on Matty Groth who added a bit more energy to the front line with his constant pressing. Eventually Matt's hard work paid off and won a penalty with about 10 minutes to play after being pulled down in the box. Up steps big Tom to tuck away his second penalty in two games, get it right up ye!! The goal was a killer blow to Mascot who had the wind taken out of them and never really looked like getting back into it.

The game finished 4-2 and it was a decent all round performance considering we were without a few regulars. It was good to see wee Danny back and big Tom maintaining his recent good form. Also big Davey T getting a full game in without tearing his tights, no I mean hamstring, was a bonus. Thanks to the second team players who helped out and benched for us after playing a full match just prior.

This was Barnstoneworth's fourth game in 2 weeks and with another game on Tuesday night and another catch up game on Sunday there is no let up. We are on a great run of form and need to continue this into the 2 games next week and make sure we keep the pressure on the teams at the top of the table.
