Three in a row for Barnstoneworth
/Barnstoneworths 5th match of the season was away to East FC who were bottom of the league with no wins yet this season.
We started the match pretty shite to be honest.
After 20 we started to kick it up a gear and we constantly threatened down the right with Paul and Ross linking up which ended up with a good ball into the box to Stephen. After some quick feet and a little shuffle to beat his man Stevie felt the slightest of touches on his ankles and won a penalty for the away side. However by the way he hit the deck you would have thought a freight train had hit him, 9/10 from the judges on the side line.
Andy stepped up to take the penalty and banish the memory of that penalty miss in the cup game earlier this season. That day Andy imitated Chris Waddle and blazed over, at least he hit the target this time but was more reminiscent of David Batty's effort in the 98 World Cup as the keeper got down and pushed it away.
5 minutes later however with another Rory Dlelap throw in by Ryan, another header flicked on by Stu, Andy redeemed himself and finished smartly on the half volley to put Barney 1-0 up.
After that we looked pretty good, Jay put some quality corners in the box and Paul almost did it again with a salmon like leap in the box.
2nd half we started to dominate, David came on as Nick figured himself it was only a matter of time before he got sent off. The change was effective as Dave The Hatchet started to boss the midfield and it only seemed like a matter of time before the lead would be extended.
Easts only threat was the long ball over the top but the Barney defence was solid with Scott and Ryan winning everything that came their way.
Iain came on to inject a bit of pace into the attack and played a good ball down the line to Andy who beat his man and made a darting run into the box. The Easts defenders couldn't keep pace and eventually brought Andy to ground resulting in another penalty. Andy went to grab the ball but Whealo was having none of it and resembled a young Julian Dicks as he stepped up to take the spot kick. No mistakes this time 2-0 Barney.
Going into the last 5 minutes the game was all but won, however another Easts long ball finally caught the Barney defence napping and despite a shout for offside the ref waved play on and Easts found themselves back in the game 2-1.
Barney managed to see out the remainder of the game with little else to report and picked up the 3 points to make it 3 wins on the bounce.
A decent performance overall and if we were a little more clinical in front of goal the game would have been won by half time. Onto Coogee next week. MTB!!
