Match Report AA8 v QP 15/04/12

Barnstoneworth took on Queens Park at Paine hoping to build on last weeks success against Redfern.

The week before he was the 17th man but after a management sit down it was decided that Neil be was promoted to to 16th man.

Overcome with joy and close to tears, Neil took his place on the bench.

As usual Barnstoneworth got off to a slow start. The only highlight of the half being a brilliant cross from the left from Andy which unfortunately hit the branch of the tree behind the goal. It was converted by Anto, but the ref ruled it out!! Some bullshit excuse. A strong letter of protest was immediately dispatched to Randwick council who have since launched an investigation. A discount on match fees cannot be ruled out!!

Queens park came close with a succession of corners, the last of which saw Marcel dispatch with a characteristic continental style two fisted punch. He’d have caught it if it was a meat pie commented one onlooker!

The end of the half saw us just about hanging on.

Half time 0-0

The second half was a different story, we had the better of it. Subs Alistair and Pete came on to freshen things up. Andy had a shot tipped onto the post and Danny, Anto and Ricky all had good efforts. It was Queens Park who took the lead after a mix up at the back (nothing to do with me).

With 20 minutes to play Neil made his long awaited debut, slotting in at left back replacing Paul – a man still reliving his youth with the wife in Scotland. (Two weeks to go until we get the old Paul back!)
With 4 minutes to go, a corner from Andy saw Sean score with a diving header. We had our well deserved equalizer.

Full time 1-1.

The lads, for the second week in a row, had shown great character to come back from a goal down.

Onwards and upwards for the 4ths.

(Editors Note – i’m curious what game John was watching as, we don’t have anyone called Neil – presumably he meant Alex)
