Match Report AA3 (1) v Dunbar Rovers (2) 25/05/14

The House of Paine 25/05/14

Another day, another false dawn for the AA3’s.

The starting 11 was Ken, Rog, Downer, Big Mark, Ste, Nick, Dan, Dave, Buttsy, Bren, Johnny.

What started out as another promising team performance ended up with a Dunbar smash and grab and left the boys deflated again.  First Half, we played some good football in the first half and it was end to end stuff with both sides creating chances. However after 15 minutes Barnstoneworth took control of the game and took the lead following some great pressure from the strikers and Nick finished off a great cross from John R.

We were soon 2nil up after some great pressure football and the ref pointed to the centre circle. However after a lot of complaining and bitching by Dunbar ‘the referee decided’ that he wanted to speak to the linesman, who had raised his flag and quickly lowered it about it ‘ten minutes’ earlier for some innocuous throw in.  After speaking to the linesman and more complaining and bitching bny Dunbar, the ref then decided to disallow the goal, and needless to say, our boys were not happy.

Between the disallowed goal and Dunbars best player being sent off (for busting Dave with an elbow) the flow of the game was disrupted and we couldn’t get back into the game.  Dunbar started to take control of the game and we conceded the equaliser just before half time after a Dunbar counter attack. We were disappointed (some might say pissed off) to go into the break at one apiece.

Second Half .

After a healthy discussion at half time and some substitutions to freshen things up we went out to try and get back into the game. The game was pretty even with both teams creating some half chances, however Dunbar started to take control and off the back of a mistimed clearance from Barnstoneworth, the Dunbar striker was given too much time and space to walk through and put them ahead.

It was disappointing to give away another scrappy goal, however we didn’t give up and went on to create a number of great chances which on another day would have seen us win the game.

Despite all the chances we couldn’t find the breakthrough and Dunbar were keeping us on out toes by trying to hit us on the break. Our defenders were having to put in some important last ditch tackles to keep Dunbar at bay. It was from one of these breaks that we had one of our elder statesman sent off.  Downer got involved in some excessive hugging with the Dunbar striker and they both got booked for their efforts.  We were awarded the free kick but the ref decided to take his time, however Downer was worried that he would miss the Antiques Roadshow so he politely asked the ref to ‘hurry up’.  The ref was very obliging and decided Downer could leave early so he gave him a second yellow card to reduce us to ten men.

We had a few more chances before the end of the game but couldn’t force an equaliser. It was another very close game and i figure that it’s only a matter of time before we start taking our chances and finishing off teams.

MoM: Big Mark the tooth breaking bollix!!
